EU Prepares Response to Potential US Tariffs; €200 Billion AI Investment Announced

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the European Union will respond with a united front if the United States imposes tariffs. He added that trade wars ultimately harm all parties involved. EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic confirmed that the EU is examining the extent of the measures and will take countermeasures following a thorough study.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a plan to mobilize €200 billion for investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Europe. This includes public funding to complement the €150 billion committed by European companies. The initiative will focus on industrial and mission-critical applications, forming the world's largest public-private partnership for developing trustworthy AI. The announcement was made during an AI summit in Paris on February 11, 2025, where U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance cautioned against excessive AI regulation.
