Brazil and UAE Boost Renewable Energy Cooperation

November 19, 2024, Brazil - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva emphasized the strengthening of bilateral cooperation with the UAE, particularly in renewable energy and technology sectors.

The trade volume between Brazil and the UAE reached $4.3 billion in 2023, marking a 42% increase from 2003. Lula highlighted the need to diversify trade to include high-value products and enhance Brazilian investments in the UAE.

Brazil's renewable energy sector is positioned for collaboration, especially in biofuels, where Brazil has significant expertise. The Brazilian government is working with the UAE-based Asilian Group on a project utilizing macaúba for green diesel and sustainable aviation fuel production.

Both nations are committed to international rules-based systems and share a vision for cooperation in various fields, including renewable energy, technology, and food security. The collaboration aims to ensure a smooth transition between COP28 in Dubai and COP30 in Belém, Brazil, scheduled for 2025.

Lula noted that the two countries signed memoranda of understanding covering educational cooperation and artificial intelligence, with additional discussions on Antarctic issues.

Brazil is one of the world's largest food producers and exporters, while the UAE serves as a vital logistical hub for re-exporting goods throughout the region. Lula expressed a desire for increased Emirati investment in direct production in Brazil.

Both countries are pursuing common goals to enhance high-value economic sectors, particularly in defense and aviation, leveraging Brazil's advanced industrial base and the UAE's investments in AI technologies.

Efforts to streamline knowledge exchange between research institutions and increase investment in integrated industrial development are ongoing, with a focus on digitizing public services to improve citizens' lives.

President Lula concluded by asserting that Brazil and the UAE are constructive allies with a shared vision for human welfare and development.
