WiFi Security Risks: Protect Your Network

As essential as electricity, WiFi connectivity poses significant security risks if not properly managed. Experts warn that many households are vulnerable to cyber attacks due to default router settings and outdated security protocols.

Research by Broadband Genie reveals that over half of internet users have never changed their router's factory settings, leaving their networks exposed. With 89% of respondents not altering their WiFi name and 86% not changing their administrator password, hackers can easily exploit these weaknesses.

Routers serve as gateways to the internet, yet most users neglect to secure them post-setup. To enhance security, users should regularly update router firmware, change default passwords, and disable unnecessary remote management features. The lack of awareness surrounding these practices can lead to severe consequences, including unauthorized access to personal data.

Experts emphasize that updating router settings is akin to changing the locks on your front door. As cyber threats evolve, so must our approach to safeguarding home networks.
