Baku, Azerbaijan, November 14, 2024 - At the COP29 conference, IBM and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) announced new AI-powered solutions aimed at enhancing sustainable urban development globally. These tools will assist decision-makers in mapping urbanization and identifying energy and infrastructure needs in developing regions.
John Matogo, IBM's Corporate Social Responsibility Leader for Africa & the Middle East, stated, "We're proud to launch solutions that harness the power of artificial intelligence to impact communities worldwide." Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO of SEforALL, emphasized the importance of integrating AI in energy sector planning to address developmental challenges in the Global South.
The Open Building Insights (OBI) Tool, developed in collaboration with IBM, consolidates data to aid energy planners in overcoming data gaps. It provides a visual map of building information, helping stakeholders make informed decisions regarding urban development.
Additionally, the Modeling Urban Growth (MUG) AI model predicts urban growth by analyzing historical satellite data and geographic information. This open-source model is designed to assist in planning for electrification and energy services in developing regions.
IBM's Sustainability Accelerator program, initiated in 2022, focuses on scaling technology and AI solutions to address environmental threats affecting vulnerable communities.
