India Aims to Lead in AI and Drone Technology

India is positioning itself to become a global hub for drone technology, with significant implications for its economy and defense capabilities. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced initiatives aimed at enhancing research and development in this sector during the Delhi Defence Dialogue on November 12, 2024.

Singh emphasized that the government is improving certification mechanisms and fostering innovation through programs like iDEX and ADITI. He noted that drones and swarm technologies are revolutionizing modern warfare, altering traditional concepts across land, air, and water.

Moreover, Singh highlighted India's commitment to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). The government has established an AI framework for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to integrate AI features into its products. Each Defence Public Sector Undertaking has a dedicated AI roadmap.

As India navigates a complex geopolitical landscape, Singh reiterated the importance of adaptive defense strategies to counter information warfare threats, ensuring national security remains a top priority.
