On January 21, 2025, the Lobachevsky satellite received its first multispectral camera, designed for Earth remote sensing, according to the press service of Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University. The camera will be installed by the company Geoscan, which is also set to add a second hyperspectral camera soon.

This new equipment will enable the study of vegetation on Earth. Data from the satellite will be processed using a software-hardware complex developed by Nizhny Novgorod scientists. Professor Vadim Turlapov from the Institute of Information Technologies, Mathematics, and Mechanics emphasized that AI-processed space data will enhance the quality and speed of analyzing agricultural and wild plant conditions, which is crucial for precision agriculture and land management.

The satellite is scheduled for launch in June 2025. The announcement regarding the launch of the Nizhny Novgorod satellite into Earth's orbit was made in February of the previous year. It will be equipped with two powerful spectral cameras for remote sensing, with dimensions of 20x20x40 cm.
