Severe Flooding Hits Lancashire, UK - November 23, 2024

Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding across Lancashire, leading to numerous road closures and power outages. The worst affected area appears to be Rossendale, where the Environment Agency has issued seven flood warnings, advising residents to take immediate action.

In Bacup, the River Irwell has overflowed, flooding Acre Park and nearby streets, while Burnley Road in Rawtenstall is experiencing severe congestion. Other flood warnings extend to areas along the River Irwell, including Rawtenstall, Irwell Vale, and Bacup.

Police have closed Bolton Road in Abbey Village due to flooding, and an overturned vehicle has resulted in lane closures on the M65. Many homes in Coppull, Darwen, Blackburn, and other areas are currently without power.

Storm Bert is expected to bring winds up to 70 mph, with further flooding anticipated as temperatures rise, causing snowmelt. The Environment Agency has warned of a 'multi-hazard event' as conditions are expected to worsen.

Additionally, several football matches have been postponed due to the adverse weather, and travel disruptions are affecting services, including Avanti West Coast's route between Edinburgh and Carlisle.

A yellow weather warning for rain and snow remains in effect across central and northern Lancashire until Sunday morning.
