Mitsubishi Electric Partners with VTT to Develop Ocean Carbon Capture Technology

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to collaborate on developing direct ocean capture (DOC) technology. This innovative approach aims to remove carbon dioxide (CO

2

) from seawater, addressing the critical issue of ocean acidification.

Ocean acidification, caused by increased atmospheric CO

2

, threatens marine ecosystems and industries reliant on healthy oceans, such as fishing. By developing DOC technology, Mitsubishi Electric aims to contribute to carbon neutrality and promote nature-positive outcomes.

The collaboration reflects Mitsubishi Electric's commitment to sustainability, with a goal of achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2051. The company plans to accelerate the implementation of DOC technology alongside VTT, leveraging their expertise in nature-positive technologies.

Antti Arasto, Vice President of VTT, expressed pride in the partnership, highlighting the shared goal of enhancing maritime ecosystems. This collaboration represents a significant step towards innovative solutions for global environmental challenges.
