Coinbase Introduces Solana Futures Trading on US Derivatives Exchange, Marking a Step Towards SOL ETFs

On February 19, Coinbase launched Solana (SOL) futures contracts on its regulated US derivatives exchange, marking a significant step in the evolution of crypto derivatives in the United States. Regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), these SOL futures include standard contracts representing 100 SOL and retail-oriented "nano" contracts representing 5 SOL each. This move supports the potential listing of spot Solana ETFs, for which at least five ETF issuers have already filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, with a final decision expected by October 2025. Cryptocurrency derivatives products have seen rapid growth, with volumes soaring roughly 10,950% in 2024, according to Coinbase in December.
