Iconic 1964 Ferrari 250 LM Hits Auction for £21 Million

A renowned 1960s Ferrari that triumphed in the legendary 24-hour Le Mans race has been listed for auction with a staggering price tag of £21 million.

The classic crimson supercar, one of only 32 ever manufactured, boasts an impressive racing pedigree. The 1964 Ferrari 250 LM is set to be auctioned by luxury auctioneer RM Sotheby's in collaboration with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

The 'LM' in its name signifies Le Mans, the site of the infamous endurance race. This particular vehicle made history as the first privately entered Ferrari to win the race, dominating the 1965 edition.

Piloted by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt for the North American Racing Team, the car secured a remarkable sixth consecutive victory for Ferrari at the event. Additionally, it made three appearances at the 24 Hours of Daytona in Florida, making it the only Ferrari built during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime to compete in six 24-hour races.

After its racing career, the car was sold to the museum in 1970, where it has remained ever since. Over the past five decades, it has undergone meticulous maintenance and has been showcased at prestigious concourse events, winning the Best in Show at the 1994 Monterey Historics.

The auction will take place at Sotheby's in Paris, starting on February 4, with bids expected to exceed £21 million (€25 million).
