Sevilla and Essaouira to Boost Connectivity with Direct Air Route

Sevilla Mayor José Luis Sanz has met with Moroccan Royal Advisor and co-president of the Three Cultures Foundation, André Azoulay, to discuss strengthening air connectivity between Sevilla and the Moroccan city of Essaouira. The meeting, held at the City Hall, saw both parties agree to work together to establish a direct route between the two destinations.

The Mayor highlighted the importance of strengthening ties with Morocco, a country with which Sevilla shares a historical and strategic relationship. "Essaouira is a key city in Moroccan tourism and trade. Having a direct air connection with Sevilla would be a major boost for the economy, culture, and business fabric of both cities," Sanz stated in a press release.

Sanz emphasized Sevilla's role as a bridge between Europe and North Africa and expressed his willingness to further strengthen collaboration between the two cities in areas such as tourism, investment, and cultural exchange. The Mayor also praised the Royal Advisor's commitment to consolidating this strategic relationship, highlighting the international projection and shared interest in advancing joint projects.

The initiative for a direct air connection between Sevilla and Essaouira, whose medina is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, responds to the "growing demand for mobility between the two cities, benefiting not only tourism but also business opportunities and corporate cooperation," according to the City Council. The council believes that with this support, "Sevilla strengthens its position as an international benchmark in connectivity and relations with the Arab world."
