A French biologist and forestry engineer, Laurent Tillon, has found a deep connection with nature and consciousness through his work in the Rambouillet forest. Tillon, who works for the Office National des Forêts (ONF), describes his relationship with a 245-year-old sessile oak, named Quercus, in his book "Être un chêne" (Being an Oak). He recounts how the forest and the oak have been a source of solace and inspiration for him since his youth.

Tillon emphasizes the importance of understanding the interdependence of the ecosystem and our place within it. He feels a strong responsibility to protect the environment and uses his writing to connect with people on an emotional level, explaining the importance of biodiversity. He also incorporates this approach into his work with bats, using them as indicators of forest management practices. In Rambouillet, every management decision is considered from the perspective of bats, benefiting the entire ecosystem.

Despite the challenges faced by the ONF, including staff shortages, Tillon remains dedicated to his work. He believes that writing is a powerful tool for explaining the importance of biodiversity and connecting with people's emotions. His experiences in the forest, particularly with Quercus, have instilled in him a sense of hope and a commitment to environmental protection.
