On January 29, 2025, Canada and Poland will deepen their cooperation in nuclear energy, following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Warsaw. The agreement, signed by Trudeau and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, aims to enable Canadian companies to assist in Poland's energy transition and enhance the country's energy security.
Currently, Poland does not operate any nuclear power plants, but it is in the process of developing plans to construct facilities, including small modular reactors (SMRs). Canada is set to become the first G7 nation to have an operational SMR by 2029.
This collaboration is expected to strengthen energy ties between the two nations and contribute to Poland's efforts in diversifying its energy sources.
