PARIS, October 18, 2024: Tech giant Meta has announced a collaboration with Blumhouse, a prominent horror film production company, to test its new AI video tool named Movie Gen. This program, which is still under development, aims to enhance the filmmaking process.
Meta revealed that the tool has been in development for some time and will not be available for public use until next year. Blumhouse, known for its successful franchises such as 'Paranormal Activity' and 'The Purge', has been working alongside Meta to refine this technology.
Oscar-winning actor Casey Affleck, who received early access to Movie Gen, described the tool as 'more like a collaborator than it is like a tool' in a promotional video. This partnership comes at a time when the integration of AI in filmmaking has raised concerns within the industry, particularly following last year's writers' strike in Hollywood, where fears about AI potentially replacing human creatives were prominent.
Despite these concerns, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum expressed enthusiasm for testing the program, highlighting the potential benefits of AI in film production.
