EU Implements Tariffs on Belarusian and Russian Agricultural Products

On January 29, 2025, the European Commission announced the introduction of tariffs on various agricultural products from Belarus and Russia, as well as certain nitrogen-based fertilizers. This decision was reported on the European Commission's website.

The new tariffs will amount to 15% on agricultural imports from Russia in 2023, which were previously exempt from increased tariffs. Once approved by the Council, all agricultural imports from Russia will be subject to EU tariffs.

The European Commission anticipates that these tariffs will negatively impact Russia's export revenues, complicating its ability to conduct aggressive military operations against Ukraine.

It is noted that the transit of all agricultural products and fertilizers from Russia and Belarus to third countries remains unchanged under these measures, in line with the EU's commitment to promote global food security, particularly for developing nations.
