EU Condemns Trump's Reinstatement of Steel and Aluminum Tariffs, Vows Response

The European Union has strongly criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to reimpose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. The tariffs, set to take effect in March, will levy a 25% duty on steel and aluminum entering the United States, ending previous exemptions for the EU.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed deep regret over Trump's action, stating that unjustified tariffs would be met with decisive and proportionate countermeasures. The EU views these tariffs as detrimental to trade and consumers.

The EU is currently assessing the scope of the announced measures and considering its response, which could include retaliatory tariffs or the reactivation of existing duties. EU trade ministers are scheduled to discuss the matter further via video conference.
