Severe Heat Wave Hits Buenos Aires as Temperature Soars to 38°C

Buenos Aires, Argentina - February 1, 2025 - A severe heat wave continues to affect Buenos Aires and its surrounding areas, with temperatures expected to rise to 38°C over the weekend. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued warnings for high temperatures across various districts.

The weekend is set to begin with high temperatures, with Saturday's forecast indicating a minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 33°C under slightly cloudy skies. By Sunday, temperatures are predicted to range from 24°C to 36°C, with similar conditions.

As the new week begins, the oppressive heat will persist, with Monday's temperatures expected to start at 26°C and peak at 38°C. Relief is anticipated only on Tuesday, when showers are expected to provide some respite.

The SMN has issued a yellow alert for Buenos Aires and nearby areas, as well as for regions in Entre Ríos, Corrientes, Santa Fe, and several other provinces. A red alert is in effect for parts of Mendoza and Neuquén.

Cindy Fernández, a meteorologist at the SMN, attributed the heat wave to a combination of climatic factors, including high pressure over the Atlantic Ocean that is bringing warm air to central Argentina. The extended daylight hours typical of summer are also contributing to the rising temperatures.

The SMN advises residents to stay hydrated, especially vulnerable groups, to avoid outdoor physical activity, wear light clothing, apply sunscreen, and use hats when possible.
