On January 5, 2025, the authorities of the Rostov region in Russia reported a drone attack overnight. Governor Yuri Slyusar announced on Telegram that 37 drones were allegedly destroyed over the region, including in Taganrog, Millerovo, Tarasivka, and Belokalitvynskyi districts.

Several Russian Telegram channels also indicated that explosions occurred near the Millerovo military airfield, located five kilometers from the settlement of the same name. This airfield is known to be used by Russia for launching strike drones against Ukraine. However, local authorities did not comment on the potential attack on the airfield.

Governor Slyusar stated that debris from the drones caused damage to properties in Taganrog and the Neklinovskyi district, including broken windows and damaged roofs and walls of residential buildings. Vehicles were also reported to be damaged. There were no reported injuries from the attack.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that during the night, Russian air defense allegedly destroyed 61 Ukrainian strike drones. It was stated that 37 drones were downed over Rostov, with another 20 over Bryansk, two over Voronezh, and one each over Belgorod and Oryol regions. However, Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that 13 UAVs were shot down in his region, with no injuries or damages recorded.

Ukraine has not officially commented on this information.

Additionally, on the morning of January 5, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) announced that airports in the cities of Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk, and Perm temporarily suspended incoming and outgoing flights for the safety of civil aviation. The reasons for this measure were not specified, although similar actions had been taken in the past during threats of drone strikes.
