Ukraine Increases Key Interest Rate to Combat Rising Inflation

On December 12, 2024, the National Bank of Ukraine announced an unexpected increase in the key interest rate, raising it from 13% to 13.5%. This decision marks the first adjustment in four meetings, reflecting concerns over accelerating inflation that exceeded earlier forecasts.

The move was anticipated by only one economist in a Bloomberg survey, while the majority of analysts had predicted that the rate would remain unchanged. Some had even forecast a potential increase to 14%.
