BUDAPEST, Oct 30 - Hungary summoned the Swedish ambassador over remarks made by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson regarding Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's recent visit to Georgia. The Hungarian foreign ministry confirmed the meeting took place on Wednesday.
Orban's visit came shortly after a contentious parliamentary election in Georgia, which has faced criticism from several EU and NATO partners. Georgian opposition parties have alleged that the ruling party's victory was rigged, prompting state prosecutors to initiate an investigation.
During his visit, Orban described Georgia's election as free and democratic. In response, Kristersson stated that Orban does not represent Sweden or other European nations, suggesting he might align more closely with Russian interests.
A spokesperson for the Swedish foreign ministry confirmed the ambassador's summoning and emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral dialogue between Hungary and Sweden.
