Meta's New Strategy: Paying Creators to Promote Instagram Amid TikTok Uncertainty

Düzenleyen: Veronika Nazarova

Meta is launching a bold initiative to attract creators by offering financial incentives to promote Instagram on competing short-form video platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube Shorts. This move comes as TikTok faces significant challenges in the U.S., including temporary app unavailability and potential ownership divestment due to regulatory pressures.

Under the new deals, creators are required to promote Instagram twice a month while committing to exclusivity on Instagram's Reels for three months. Creators must post a minimum of eight Reels monthly, with additional Instagram Story content, while avoiding brand-sponsored posts. Compensation varies based on audience size, with top creators potentially earning between $10,000 to $50,000 monthly.

Meta's strategy reflects the intense competition in the social media landscape, as it seeks to reclaim its position among younger users, particularly as TikTok has gained traction. A recent survey indicated that 63% of teens aged 13 to 17 use TikTok, compared to 59% for Instagram.

As uncertainty looms over TikTok's future, advertisers are diversifying their strategies, with many creators exploring alternative platforms like RedNote, which has gained popularity in China. With 67% of TikTok creators considering RedNote as a viable option, the dynamics of influencer marketing are shifting rapidly.

Meta's initiative highlights the growing importance of creators in shaping platform success, as they serve as the primary draw for users. This trend underscores the need for social media companies to adapt quickly in a volatile environment.
