DataBreach.com Launches as New Tool for Personal Data Protection

Atlas Privacy has introduced DataBreach.com, a new service designed to help users check if their personal information has been compromised in data breaches. Unlike existing services such as Have I Been Pwned, which primarily searches by email address, DataBreach.com allows users to search a broader range of personal data, including full names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and usernames.

The site utilizes an extensive library of over 17.5 billion records collected from various stolen databases, enhancing its ability to identify breaches affecting individual users. According to Arnaud de Saint Méloir, a software engineer at Atlas, the focus has shifted from password breaches to the exposure of personal identifying information (PII), making this tool crucial for privacy protection.

DataBreach.com is designed with user privacy in mind; it does not store or collect sensitive information. Instead, it performs local comparisons of user-provided data against its database, ensuring that personal information remains secure. If a match is found, users receive an alert detailing the breach and what information was compromised.

In addition to its core features, DataBreach.com indexes databases that other services may overlook, including a significant breach from fashion retailer Hot Topic, which affected millions of email addresses and credit card numbers. This comprehensive approach positions DataBreach.com as a vital resource for individuals seeking to safeguard their personal data in an increasingly vulnerable digital landscape.
