Google has introduced its latest AI model, Gemini 2.0, described by CEO Sundar Pichai as a significant advancement towards creating a universal assistant. Gemini 2.0 can process and generate text, images, and audio, and utilizes tools like Google Search.

The model is currently available to a limited group of developers via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, with broader access expected in January 2025.

Additionally, Google showcased two experimental projects powered by Gemini 2.0: Project Astra and Project Mariner. Project Astra acts as a universal AI assistant, enhancing user interaction through better dialogue and understanding of various inputs, while Project Mariner is an experimental Chrome extension that automates web tasks.

Pichai emphasized that these innovations mark the beginning of a new era for AI agents, capable of handling diverse data types more effectively.
