Former England rugby star Matt Dawson has openly shared how his perspective on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle transformed after watching their Netflix documentary series. Although Dawson, 52, typically avoids royal gossip, he found himself drawn to the much-discussed docu-series that has captivated millions worldwide.
In an interview with the Express in December 2022, Dawson revealed that the series prompted him to reconsider his initial judgment of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He stated, 'In the first 10 minutes, I was thinking, 'Oh no, this is like a woe is me type doc'.'
However, a poignant comment from Meghan resonated deeply with him, shifting his viewpoint entirely. During a heartfelt segment, the former 'Suits' actress articulated her wish for authenticity in their narrative, saying, 'The past six years of my life, books are written about our story from people who I don't know. Doesn't it make more sense to hear our story from us?'
Dawson reflected, 'I just thought, do you know what, in their environment and where everyone is going to have a view of Harry, because he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past, I sort of thought, 'Ok, go with it'.'
He concluded by emphasizing the public's curiosity about the couple, stating, 'We all want to know what they are like, so why don't we just get to see what they are like? It is what it is, but at least it's in their voice.'
Ultimately, Dawson acknowledged the value of hearing their story directly from them, noting, 'We are obviously all interested in it and we are getting those little nuggets that we wouldn't have known before, so it has definitely served its purpose.'
