Pittsburgh's Moonshot Museum Showcases VOLT Lunar Rover as Future of Moon Exploration

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Moonshot Museum in Pittsburgh has unveiled an engineering model of the VOLT lunar rover, developed by local company Astrobotic. This rover, already tested by NASA, represents a significant advancement in lunar exploration technology.

The VOLT features a solar array named Rosa, designed to harness solar energy, which can be utilized to power tools and resources on the lunar surface. The museum's exhibit aims to educate visitors about the future of moon missions, with plans for a fleet of VOLTs to establish a power grid, termed LunaGrid, to support astronauts.

In addition to the rover, the Griffin lunar lander is under construction and is anticipated to launch as early as next year. The Moonshot Museum encourages hands-on engagement, allowing visitors to send messages to the moon and participate in educational programs.

On October 28, the museum will host a junior space conference, targeting students from underrepresented communities, aiming to inspire the next generation of aerospace professionals.

The VOLT lunar rover will be on display for a limited time, with the museum open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
