Kendal, Central Java - Severe flooding has impacted two villages, Lanji and Kebonharjo, in the Patebon District of Kendal Regency early on January 21, 2025. Water levels reached over one meter, prompting hundreds of residents to evacuate to safer areas.
A joint team comprising police, military personnel, search and rescue teams, local disaster management, and volunteers swiftly mobilized to assist in the evacuation of affected residents.
Kendal Police Chief AKBP Feria Kurniawan praised the solid cooperation between the Patebon Police and related agencies in managing the emergency situation. “We greatly appreciate the rapid response from all involved in the evacuation process,” stated AKBP Feria Kurniawan.
Affected residents are currently sheltering in two locations: the Transportation Office and SMA Negeri 1 Pegandon Kendal. Approximately 200 individuals are taking refuge at the Transportation Office, while 71 others are at the school.
Although water levels have begun to recede compared to the early morning conditions, the community is advised to remain vigilant for potential subsequent flooding. Joint authorities continue to monitor the situation on the ground to ensure conditions remain stable.
“We urge the community to stay informed about weather updates and to report any signs of potential subsequent flooding,” added the Police Chief.
Patebon Police Chief AKP Rozikin explained that personnel had been deployed since early morning to assist in evacuating residents from the affected areas. “The safety of residents is our top priority. Thanks to good cooperation with volunteers and the community, the evacuation process has proceeded smoothly,” stated AKP Rozikin.
Meanwhile, logistical needs for the evacuees, including food and basic supplies, have been met thanks to ongoing assistance from various parties.
