Severe Flooding in Boquete, Panama - November 11, 2024

Boquete, Chiriquí is experiencing significant rainfall this weekend, leading to flooding in various sectors. While the intensity of the rain has moderated, it continues to affect the area, particularly the urban center and the Valle Escondido tourist zone, where water has inundated ground floors of buildings.

Travel disruptions are notable, with numerous flights from David to Panama delayed or canceled due to adverse weather conditions. The heavy rains have also led to the cancellation of holiday parades commemorating Panama's first cry for independence from Spain on November 10.

Local tributaries have overflowed, impacting businesses and residential areas. Mayor Eduardo Rodríguez has announced coordination with the National Civil Protection System, Fire Department, National Police, and Red Cross for evacuations in flooded areas, including La Zumbona, Quebrada Grande, and Jaramillo streams.

Valle Escondido Wellness Resort Hotel reported flooding but confirmed that the situation is under control and no injuries have occurred. The management stated that after assessing the facilities, they are safe and operational for guests.

In Barú district, heavy rains have also affected several areas, prompting authorities to establish shelters for residents displaced by flooding. Currently, at least 130 individuals are residing in these shelters.
