Tropical Storm Sara Causes Widespread Flooding and Displacement in Central America

Tropical Storm Sara has wreaked havoc across Central America, particularly in Honduras and Costa Rica, leading to significant flooding and displacing thousands. The storm, moving slowly at about 5 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h, has left at least one dead and over 47,000 affected in northern Honduras alone.

In Costa Rica, the storm has forced 3,057 people into shelters, with the hardest-hit areas being Guanacaste and Puntarenas. Reports indicate 597 flood-related incidents in Puntarenas, prompting urgent evacuations. The Costa Rican National Emergency Commission (CNE) has increased the number of shelters from 40 to 47 within 48 hours due to the rising number of displaced individuals.

As the storm continues to advance toward Belize and Guatemala, authorities are bracing for further rainfall and potential landslides, exacerbating the already critical situation. The region remains on high alert as communities continue to grapple with the aftermath of the storm.
