CleanSpark Restores Bitcoin Mining Post-Hurricane Helene

On October 1, 2024, CleanSpark, a U.S. Bitcoin mining firm, reported ongoing efforts to restore power across its facilities following Hurricane Helene, which caused significant flooding and power outages in multiple states. The company's hashrate plummeted from 28 exahashes per second (EH/s) to 10.5 EH/s due to the shutdown of 365 megawatts (MW) at its southeast Georgia site on September 27.

As of now, CleanSpark has successfully brought 200 MW back online, raising its operational hashrate to 22 EH/s. The firm anticipates that the remaining 165 MW will be restored by October 4. CEO Zach Bradford emphasized that their mining infrastructure incurred no material damage and that all team members are safe.

Hurricane Helene, classified as a category 4 storm, has resulted in at least 137 fatalities and extensive property damage across seven states, including Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. Wind speeds reached 140 miles per hour, leading to road closures and severe flooding. The overall Bitcoin hash rate has fluctuated between 538 EH/s and 745 EH/s since the hurricane's landfall.
