Ghanaian Cedi Shows Slight Gains Against Major Currencies Amid Central Bank Intervention

The Ghanaian cedi has experienced marginal appreciation against major currencies, particularly the US dollar, according to recent data from forex bureaus.

The Central Bank's daily update indicates the cedi is being bought at GH¢15.48 and sold at GH¢15.49 per dollar. The British pound is trading at GH¢19.39 (buying) and GH¢19.42 (selling), while the euro is at GH¢16.14 (buying) and GH¢16.16 (selling).

As of February 14, 2025, at 9:30 AM, some major forex bureaus reported the cedi trading at GH¢15.90 to the dollar, and the pound at GH¢19.70. The euro was trading at GH¢16.70 on the retail market.

The Bank of Ghana sold over $200 million in the last quarter of 2024 in an effort to stabilize the cedi.
