Morocco Hosts Conference on Consciousness and Reality at UM6P

Benguerir - Can science and spirituality truly coexist in the search for meaning? The Science and Quest for Meaning Center and Africa Business School, both affiliates of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), launched the 2nd edition of a two-day conference today aiming to explore exactly that question.

Held at UM6P's Benguerir campus under the theme "Consciousness and the Nature of Reality: Two Enigmas of the 21st Century," this year's Science and Quest for Meaning Conference convenes distinguished speakers, including William D. Phillips, Nobel Prize winner in Physics, alongside renowned neuroscientists, philosophers, and spiritual leaders.

In an interview with Morocco World News, William D. Phillips shared his thoughts on the relationship between quantum mechanics and religious belief. "I believe that science and religion are two of the most important forces shaping our present society, and because of that, one ought to think about the connection and relationship between science and religious faith," he said.

Decoding consciousness, redefining reality

The event features an exceptional lineup of global thinkers. Joining Nobel laureate William D. Phillips are renowned experts such as neurosurgeon Eben Alexander, quantum physicist Andrew Briggs, and historian Ahmed Bouyerdene, each contributing unique perspectives on the enigmas of consciousness and reality.

Of the event, Jean Staune, Director of the Science and Quest for Meaning Center, told Morocco World News that its overarching ambition is to foster dialogue and unity among diverging visions and ways of leading a meaningful life. "We are organizing this major international conference on the nature of reality and consciousness to demonstrate how it is possible to bring together our intuitive worldview, rooted in great spiritual traditions, and modern science, to present a unified vision of the world," he shared.

Bridging science and spirituality

The opening day began with insightful keynotes and dynamic panel discussions exploring topics from quantum physics and metaphysics to the intersection of the human mind and the universe. Artistic workshops also invited attendees to reflect creatively on the mysteries of existence.

UM6P President Hicham El Habti emphasized the university's commitment to interdisciplinary innovation. "At UM6P, we are proud to foster transformative dialogue that spans science, philosophy, and spirituality, pushing boundaries to address today's global challenges," he explained.

Exploring the unseen

Throughout day one of the conference, speakers explored the many dimensions of the complex intersection of scientific discovery and spiritual quest for wonder and meaning. In particular, panelists discussed how consciousness shapes our understanding of reality and how emerging scientific paradigms can inspire conscious leadership and drive sustainable practices.

The Science and Quest for Meaning conference is a groundbreaking convergence of diverse disciplines, tackling humanity's most profound existential questions. With a stellar lineup of thought leaders and a bold, interdisciplinary approach, the event's organizers envision to position Morocco at the forefront of global innovation, redefining the future of knowledge and sparking transformative dialogue.
