Gilmour Space Secures First Australian Orbital Launch License, Set for Eris Rocket Test Flight

Australia is preparing to enter the realm of orbital launches as Gilmour Space has received the country's inaugural orbital launch license. The company is gearing up for the first test flight of its Eris rocket, with a specific launch date anticipated in the coming weeks from the Bowen Orbital Spaceport in northern Queensland.

Founded in 2015, Gilmour Space has expanded to over 200 employees and developed its launch capabilities using a domestic supply chain of more than 300 companies. The company’s efforts have been recognized by local officials, with Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Ry Collins stating, "Success here isn't just about reaching orbit. It's about positioning Bowen as a key player in Australia's journey to space. This is just the beginning."

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate added that Gilmour Space's initiatives are fostering high-value jobs and opportunities for future innovators in the region. The upcoming maiden flight, designated TestFlight1, is part of a series of tests intended to qualify the rocket's systems and propulsion technology.

In preparation for this launch, Gilmour Space conducted a significant fueling test known as a wet dress rehearsal in September, successfully completing the countdown to T-10 seconds. Gilmour Space founder and CEO Adam Gilmour described the launch permit as a "major milestone for the local space industry," emphasizing the importance of this event for the future of Australian space exploration.
