Rivian Automotive is set to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) production capabilities with a conditional commitment from the U.S. Department of Energy for up to $6.6 billion.
The funding will primarily support the construction of a new facility in Stanton Springs, Georgia, aimed at producing Rivian's midsize R2 SUV and R3/R3X crossovers.
This initiative is expected to create 9,500 jobs, including 7,500 operational roles and 2,000 construction positions.
The facility will add 400,000 units of annual production capacity, addressing both domestic and international demand.
The project underscores Rivian's commitment to advancing EV design and manufacturing in the U.S., with production slated to commence in 2028.
The DOE loan is contingent upon meeting specific technical, legal, and financial conditions.
