Toyota Remains Top Automaker Despite Sales Dip in 2024

Edytowane przez: Olga Sukhina

Toyota Motor Corporation maintained its status as the world's leading automaker in 2024, reporting total sales of 10.8 million vehicles, a decrease of 4% compared to the previous year.

The decline is primarily attributed to a nearly 20% drop in domestic sales in Japan, influenced by certification issues and a halt in Prius production.

The sales figures encompass the Lexus brand and subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino, with Daihatsu achieving 536,588 units sold globally and Hino reporting 125,556 units.

In contrast, Volkswagen Group sold approximately 9 million vehicles in the same period.

While Toyota leads in overall sales, its electrified vehicle sales totaled only 4.5 million, significantly trailing behind Tesla and BYD. Tesla sold nearly 1.79 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while BYD delivered 1.76 million.
