The sudden death of French actor Michel Blanc at the age of 72 has sent shockwaves through the film industry. Actress Dominique Lavanant shared her feelings about the unexpected loss of her colleague and friend in an interview with Télégramme.
Michel Blanc passed away during the night of October 3-4, 2024, due to a cardiac incident triggered by an allergic reaction. He suffered anaphylactic shock after taking medication during a hospital examination. Known for his work with the Troupe du Splendid since the late 1970s, Blanc's passing has left many in disbelief. Lavanant, who portrayed Christiane in 'Les Bronzés,' expressed her shock, stating, 'I can't believe it, and I still don't understand.'
Feeling 'lost,' Lavanant revealed, 'Michel was not ill, although he had a heart murmur for as long as I’ve known him.' She added, 'He was so afraid of death. I have rarely seen someone experience such fear of dying.' In these difficult moments, Lavanant has tried to find some positivity, saying, 'He died in the arms of his companion, with whom he was very happy, and that is already a lot.' Michel Blanc had been in a relationship with Ramatoulaye Diop for about fifteen years.
Actor Gérard Jugnot, a member of the iconic Troupe du Splendid, provided more details about his friend's death during an interview with RTL. He explained, 'I was told that he had a severe allergy, an anaphylactic shock from a medication... They tried to resuscitate him; it was terrible for the rest of the day yesterday, but he left us.'
Together with Josiane Balasko, Marie-Anne Chazel, Christian Clavier, Thierry Lhermitte, and Bruno Moynot, Gérard Jugnot paid tribute to the actor in a joint press release. 'The Troupe du Splendid joins together in a single voice to express their immense sorrow following the death of their friend and companion Michel Blanc. We sincerely thank you for all your messages of support and friendship.'
