French Actor Dies from Severe Allergic Reaction to Medical Contrast Agent

Gérard Jugnot has revealed that a 72-year-old French actor succumbed to a "shock anaphylactique" caused by a "huge allergy to a medication." The actor experienced a rare but severe allergic reaction known as angioedema. According to BFMTV, this reaction was triggered by a contrast agent used during a medical examination on Thursday afternoon.

A contrast agent is a substance used in medical imaging to artificially enhance the contrast of anatomical structures (like organs) or pathological ones (such as tumors) that are naturally difficult to distinguish from surrounding tissues.

Since March 2024, these agents are held by radiology practices (previously available at pharmacies) to ensure their immediate availability during imaging exams. They are covered by health insurance as part of the technical fee for conducting imaging examinations.
