Escalation in Israel-Lebanon Conflict: Four Israeli Soldiers Killed in Drone Strike by Hezbollah

On October 13, 2024, four Israeli soldiers were killed following a drone strike launched by the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. The attack targeted a military base near the town of Binyamina in northern Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the drone strike occurred on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of the soldiers and injuring seven others seriously.

Earlier, three Israeli military units entered southern Lebanon, with two IDF tanks breaching the positions of peacekeeping forces and damaging infrastructure.

Additionally, two soldiers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) sustained injuries from Israeli fire directed at the peacekeepers' headquarters at Ras al-Naqura. Israeli forces also targeted a UN position known as '1-31' in the village of Laboune, damaging vehicles and communication systems.

In response to the escalating tensions, the IDF declared three border towns—Metula, Misgav Am, and Kfar Giladi—as closed military zones. In recent days, army units have conducted exercises near the Lebanese border, practicing various scenarios. Reports indicate that the military plans to expand ground operations in Lebanon aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's military capabilities.
