Zelensky Warns of Nuclear Threat at UN

On September 25, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York, warning that Russia is preparing to attack Ukraine's nuclear power plants to disconnect them from the energy grid.

Zelensky highlighted the risk of a potential nuclear disaster that could impact European countries. He noted that 80% of Ukraine's energy system has already been affected by recent Russian attacks, stating, "This is how Putin is preparing for winter."

Additionally, Zelensky called for a "just and real" peace agreement for Ukraine, emphasizing that he would not accept any deal that does not consider Ukraine's interests. He criticized countries proposing alternatives to his peace plan for their own gain, asserting, "There will be no just peace without Ukraine."

Following his speech at the UN Security Council, Zelensky expressed frustration with the organization's inability to resolve the conflict due to Russia's veto power as one of the five permanent members.
