KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 - Torrential rain has led to significant flooding in six Malaysian states, affecting more than 37,000 individuals, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The states impacted include Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, and Perak.
Kelantan has been particularly hard hit, with approximately 30,582 people from 9,223 families displaced. A total of 322 temporary shelters have been established to accommodate those affected by the floods.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for continuous heavy rainfall in Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu, predicting that the downpour will persist until Friday. Flooding is a recurrent issue during Malaysia's annual monsoon season, which lasts from October to March.
The National Disaster Management Agency has been instructed to mobilize all relevant federal and state agencies to ensure the safety and support of flood victims during this period.
