International Criminal Court Seeks Arrest Warrant for Myanmar Junta Leader Amid Ongoing Human Rights Concerns

On November 27, 2024, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) applied for an arrest warrant for Myanmar junta chief Min Aung Hlaing. The prosecutor stated there are reasonable grounds to believe that Hlaing was involved in crimes against the Rohingya Muslim minority. A panel of three judges will now review the application to determine whether to issue the warrant.

This announcement follows recent ICC actions, including arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Chief Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif.
