The United Nations has commenced a second round of polio vaccinations for children in the Gaza Strip. This initiative targets approximately 590,000 children under the age of ten, following the discovery of the first polio case in the region in 25 years in July 2024.
The vaccination campaign is supported by local health authorities, UNICEF, and UNRWA, with area-specific humanitarian truces arranged between Israel and the organizers to facilitate the effort.
In a separate incident, the Israeli military confirmed an airstrike early Monday morning that targeted displacement tents at the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, Gaza. Reports indicate that the attack resulted in several fatalities and numerous injuries, with varying casualty figures reported by different news agencies.
The Israeli Defense Forces stated that the strike was aimed at Hamas operatives believed to be using the hospital as a command center. The Gaza Health Ministry has condemned the ongoing siege of northern Gaza hospitals, emphasizing the danger to patient lives.
