Microsoft 365 Faces Major Outage, Users Report Issues

Nearly 1,000 issues with Microsoft 365 have been reported to Downdetector this morning, with the most common complaint being problems with Microsoft Outlook.

Of the complaints logged, 87% relate to email service issues, while 10% involve server connection problems and 3% are login issues.

Users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustrations, with one commenting, "For Outlook to be down on a Monday morning has to be a sick joke."

Outlook and Microsoft 365 are not the only platforms experiencing issues, as Microsoft Teams has also seen a spike in reports.

A statement from Microsoft 365 Status on X indicated, "We are investigating a problem affecting users trying to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar."

Downdetector is a website that allows users of popular services like X, Instagram, and Facebook to report service issues. It only reports incidents when the number of problem reports significantly exceeds the typical volume for that time of day.

Describing itself on its website, Downdetector states it is "where people go when services are not working." The site monitors outages across various key services, including internet, web hosting platforms, banks, and social networks.

Users can participate by submitting reports of issues on the platform. Problem indicators are also gathered from social media and other online factors. These reports are validated and analyzed in real-time.

An incident is detected if the number of reports is significantly higher than the typical average for that particular service. Users investigating the problem can see the most reported issues currently and check if their areas are among the hotspots for outages.
