OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Gov, a specialized version of its AI chatbot for U.S. government agencies, as announced in a recent blog post.

The new platform can be deployed on Microsoft Azure, allowing agencies to utilize features from ChatGPT Enterprise, including custom GPTs. This launch follows CEO Sam Altman's remarks about scaling back some releases amid increased competition from the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, which has recently surpassed ChatGPT in downloads.

OpenAI highlights that ChatGPT Gov enables agencies to enhance their security, privacy, and compliance while streamlining the authorization process for handling sensitive data. Since 2024, over 90,000 users from more than 3,500 government agencies have utilized ChatGPT for daily tasks, sending over 18 million messages.
