OpenAI is poised to announce an AI capable of performing Ph.D.-level tasks, which could replace complex human roles, according to Axios. CEO Sam Altman has arranged a closed-door briefing with U.S. government officials in Washington D.C. on January 30.

Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed that the company is developing an AI expected to replace mid-level engineers. In a recent interview, Zuckerberg stated, 'Probably in 2025, we at Meta, as well as other companies, are going to have an AI that can effectively be a sort of midlevel engineer that you have at your company that can write code.'

Zuckerberg also mentioned that much of the code in Meta's applications will eventually be generated by AI systems rather than human engineers. Despite these advancements, Meta plans to cut about 5% of its workforce of 72,000 but intends to fill those roles with new hires by the end of the year.

Other tech giants are also leveraging AI for coding tasks. Google CEO Sundar Pichai noted that over a quarter of new code at Google is generated by AI, streamlining the work of engineers.

In the financial sector, JPMorgan Chase reported that its AI tool reduced manual work by 90%. CEO Jamie Dimon acknowledged that while AI would eliminate some jobs, it would also create new positions.

A recent survey indicated that over 60% of large U.S. companies plan to implement AI within a year to take over tasks previously performed by human workers.
