Online learning platform Coursera reports a significant rise in interest for Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses in Asia-Pacific, particularly in Indonesia. In 2024, nearly every two minutes, someone in the region enrolls in a Generative AI (GenAI) course.

Coursera noted a 330% increase in GenAI course registrations in Indonesia, driven by offerings such as Google AI Essentials and Generative AI for Everyone. Raghav Gupta, Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at Coursera, emphasized that Indonesian learners are prioritizing GenAI skills to remain competitive in the evolving job market.

Gupta remarked, "This trend demonstrates resilience and adaptability among learners who aim to lead globally." While basic GenAI courses remain popular, there is a noticeable shift towards practical applications in the workplace.

Moreover, Microsoft's Work Trend Index 2024 indicates that AI skills are now a top priority for Indonesian leaders in hiring. A striking 69% of leaders stated they would not hire candidates lacking AI skills, regardless of other qualifications. Additionally, 76% prefer candidates with less experience but strong AI capabilities over more experienced candidates without these skills.
