Google Launches AI Initiatives in India

Google announced significant artificial intelligence (AI) projects in India, including the Gemini model to enhance Google Search and Maps, and expanded support for Indian languages. The company aims to educate 10 million Indians through its new AI Skills House.

The Gemini mobile app is rolling out Gemini Live in Hindi, with eight additional languages to follow. This app assists users in various tasks, from academic support to creative inspiration, all in their preferred language.

Roma Datta Chobey, Managing Director of Google India, emphasized AI's potential to revolutionize sectors like healthcare and agriculture, turning India's demographic advantage into a demographic dividend. She stated, 'AI can galvanize the ways in which every citizen can become as unlimited as their imagination.'

Chobey also highlighted the 'AI Opportunity Agenda for India' whitepaper, which outlines strategies for maximizing AI's potential for economic growth and inclusive progress.

With over 40% of Gemini's Indian language users relying on voice interactions, Google launched Gemini Live in English to facilitate natural voice conversations. The app responds in real-time and adapts to users' conversation styles.

Google aims to collaborate with experts and policymakers to democratize access to information and build a thriving AI ecosystem in India, while also focusing on online safety and sustainability.
