Airtel Launches AI-Powered Spam Detection in India

Bharti Airtel has launched India's first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution, aimed at reducing spam calls and messages for its customers. The system processes 1 trillion records in real-time, flagging 100 million spam calls and 3 million SMS messages daily.

This innovative tool alerts customers in real-time to suspected spam communications and will be automatically activated for all Airtel users at no cost. Airtel emphasized the importance of this solution, stating, "Spam has become a menace for customers. We have spent the last twelve months working to solve this comprehensively."

The dual-layer protection system includes filters at both the network and IT systems layers, processing 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls each day. The AI algorithm analyzes various parameters, such as usage patterns and call frequency, to accurately identify spam.

Additionally, the solution scans SMS messages for malicious links, utilizing a centralized database of blacklisted URLs. This launch aligns with the Government of India's guidelines for managing promotional and transactional calls.
