Director Andrés Muschietti, known for his work on It and The Flash, has reaffirmed his commitment to adapting the beloved video game Shadow of the Colossus, despite a decade of delays. The project was first announced in 2009, with various directors attached over the years, including Josh Trank and Seth Lochhead as the writer.
Muschietti took over in 2014, yet the film has yet to materialize. In a recent interview, he expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating that it is not abandoned and that a script has been developed.
“I’m not a big gamer, but Shadow of the Colossus seems to me a masterpiece,” Muschietti shared. He acknowledged that while he is excited about the script, financial backing remains a significant hurdle. “To make a good film, there is a studio that puts the numbers,” he explained, hinting at the budget considerations needed to move forward.
As anticipation builds, Shadow of the Colossus is not the only PlayStation title in the pipeline. Sony recently announced adaptations for Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, alongside the upcoming Until Dawn film set for release this April.
