In a significant step towards combating climate change and biodiversity loss, the Underwater Gardens Tenerife project is set to launch in Guía de Isora, Spain. This innovative initiative aims to intertwine science, tourism, and education, creating a regenerative park that spans 10.6 hectares.
Scheduled for completion in 2028, with construction beginning in 2026, the project has been recognized as a Project of Insular Interest (PII) by the Cabildo of Tenerife. It seeks to address the urgent need for marine ecosystem restoration by providing immersive experiences that connect visitors to the ocean and nature.
Underwater Gardens will feature two main areas: Garden Gate, focusing on educational activities, and Sea Garden, offering authentic diving experiences in a uniquely designed underwater landscape. The park aims to promote the regeneration of native species and integrate sustainable practices, such as circular economy principles, to minimize environmental impact.
This initiative has already attracted substantial investment, totaling 70 million euros, and collaborates with 23 scientific institutions to assess the local marine ecosystem. The founders envision the park as a model for global replication, emphasizing the importance of balancing tourism with environmental regeneration.
As the project progresses, it aims to strengthen local traditions and promote educational programs, ensuring that visitors not only enjoy the natural beauty of Tenerife but also learn about the critical importance of preserving its unique ecosystems.
