Explosion of Tesla Cybertruck Outside Trump Hotel Investigated as Possible Terrorism, Las Vegas, January 2, 2025

LAS VEGAS -- A Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel early Wednesday, resulting in one fatality and seven minor injuries. Firework mortars and camp fuel canisters were discovered in the vehicle, prompting an investigation into potential terrorism.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and Clark County Fire Department officials confirmed the death of a suspect inside the truck. The FBI's Las Vegas office is focusing on identifying the individual involved and determining whether the incident was an act of terrorism.

Authorities tracked the vehicle's path using video from Tesla charging stations, with the truck arriving in Las Vegas around 7:30 AM. It was parked in the hotel’s valet area for approximately 15 to 20 seconds before the explosion.

CEO Elon Musk stated that the blast was caused by explosives carried in the truck and was unrelated to the vehicle’s functionality. Musk's team is conducting a thorough investigation.

Investigators are also looking into possible links between this incident and a recent truck attack in New Orleans, which killed at least 15 people and is being treated as a terrorist act.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions, with one describing the moments leading up to the incident. The hotel is located near the Las Vegas Strip.
